Early Years Curriculum
At Bugle Nursery, we believe children learn best when they are engaged, curious, and inspired. That’s why we follow the children’s interests when planning our learning experiences, allowing us to create meaningful and exciting opportunities that reflect what they are naturally drawn to.
While our planning is flexible and responsive, we often notice familiar themes emerging throughout the year, particularly those linked to the seasons and special events. For example, we explore seasonal changes such as Autumn and Winter, as well as celebrations like Christmas, helping children to connect their learning to the world around them.
IFor example n the Autumn term, we begin with an “Marvellous Me” topic. This is a special time where we get to know each other, build relationships, and support children in developing a sense of identity and belonging within our nursery community.
These topics are always adapted to reflect the children’s interests, ensuring learning remains relevant, enjoyable, and tailored to each cohort.
Early Talk Boost
Early Talk Boost is a targeted programme aimed at 3-4 year old children who need help with talking and understanding words. Most importantly, the programme helps to boost their language skills to narrow the gap between them and their peers. The programme aims to accelerate children’s progress in language and communication by an average of 5 months after 9 weeks.
Children who are selected to take part in the programme will attend three sessions per week during circle/story time, each lasting 15-20 minutes delivered by an early years practitioner. The sessions include activities that cover the foundation skills in speech, language and communication that children need for learning and understanding new words, as well as having conversations.
Big Brush Club
We believe in teaching children the importance of brushing their teeth from a young age, as this helps to build good habits that they can carry with them for the rest of their lives.Â
Big Brush Club is a supervised toothbrushing scheme funded by the NHS, being delivered to early years settings across the Southwest.
